That's what happens with the H/H of "Unexpected." Kelsey is 30 years old. There's no guy in her life and she wants a baby. So she goes to a fertility clinic. And it works. She's happy and expecting. But Cole didn't expect his "sample" to be used and he's beyond surprised to find out he's going to be a dad. And he wants to do the right thing for his child.

This is a fun story but it also brings up questions about love, sex, parenthood. Snappy dialogue throughout the story kept bringing a smile to my face.

I also enjoyed the side characters stories, some of which will be continued in future Silver Creek tales, like Untouched.

So if you want to read a feisty romantic tale that mostly takes place on a ranch in Oregon, try out "Unexpected."

The people are so real you feel like you are part of the story. Can hadly wait for the next book in the series.
The beginning and end of this book were the best parts. The plot was a good one with some humor and was interesting but as you got further into the story it had periods of repartition with the same rhetoric. Also there ages were never mentioned. I will be reading the series and I hope the next books are better.
Wonderful different, a little sad, but very romantic. Lots of twists and turns for this couple and their families to reach their happy ending.
This story wasn’t half bad. The characters were fun and the storyline well paced. I liked that Kelsey didn’t give in so easily. Cole was a fun cowboy. I would recommend.
This one grabbed from the very first page to the last.Maisey Yates didn't disappoint with this story,and I'll be looking forward to reading her next book as soon as it comes out.
This is a cute book, clearly one in a series with sequel bait built in. But that's OK; I knew that going in. It works fine as a standalone or if you just want to peek in occasionally on the world of Silver Creek and see how the folks there are doing. The dialogue is fun, the author's voice bright and refreshing.

The premise is a bit farfetched but the writing makes it work ... for the most part. But "Unexpected" feels like it goes on -- and on -- for longer than it needs to, with a lot of rehashing over (and over!) of the angst and baggage the main characters drag around with them. OK, I get it They both have family and relationship issues but I really didn't need to be pounded over the head with it. Multiple times.

Now to my biggest gripe, one that made me want to throw this book across the room, except it's on my and that would be bad Maisey Yates' (or perhaps her editor's) repeatedly having the parents-to-be saying how having a child "isn't like getting a puppy," the apparent implication being that you can't just ignore it/give it back/forget about it because a child isn't disposable like a puppy.

Except a puppy or any other living creature that depends on you isn't disposable either. To the great many millions of us who make up the Canine Nation, a dog of any age is just as much a lifetime commitment of love and careful rearing as that baby is to these fictitious patents. And it just chaps me to see a dog so dismissed. A small, stupid, repeated statement became a HUGE distraction to me; I just kept thinking about all the pets who meet bad ends because real-life people have the same idiotic assumption as the characters in this book. And having this stupidity repeated sooooooo angered me that I lost a boatload of respect for and interest in the characters.

Strangely, Yates wasn't that far wrong on the equine parts of the book, but maybe that's because she didn't spend that much time with the horses. Unlike many authors, she gave the horses OK names and portrayed life around a barn fairly accurately. So that's a plus.

Overall, "Unexpected" was an average read Some parts were very good and some were worthy of teeth-gnashing. Fans of Yates probably won't be disappointed but I wish I had started with another of her books so that I wasn't left with such a "meh" taste.
Kelsey's given up on relationships, but in her heart she wants a child. A clinic is her answer, but a mix up on the donor of her pregnancy and an angry cowboy who had no intention of donating, comes into her life and upsets the balance. A complex situation of mistrust on both sides, but a sexual attraction that sizzles. Nice epilogue.
